Scent, Taste and Flavor

Between the senses of smell and taste are connected directly in our nasal cavity. Delicious and appetizing foods and drinks are those whose aroma first touches the sense of smell before the delicious taste is felt on the tongue.

That’s why wine connoisseurs always smell the wine before tasting it. Because the tongue only confirms what is smelled in the sense of smell. Once this smells reaches the brain first, the brain tells that this is delicious — then the tongue tastes it and confirms, yes this is indeed delicious.

Now, by understanding the journey of the aroma or flavour, the combination of smell and taste — we should be able to more easily behave towards halal/haram perfumes that use the majority of ingredients in alcohol, absolute or other names that end in alcohol.

It’s not in my capacity to give a fatwa, of course, but just to follow the existing rules. What is halal is clear, what is haram is also clear, while for those who are in doubt — the rule is to leave what we doubt.

So, for those of you who doubt that your perfume is halal/haram, this could be a lesson in itself for you. Because now you can make your own perfume, so you are completely sure of what will enter the nose and reach the brain center.

It only takes 8 hours to learn to make this perfume, it can be an intensive day or 4 x meetings @ 2 hours. The training is free, and you can choose your time accordingly. Here’s the registration link:
