Introducing New Material : Nu Resin
Resin is a raw material that is very widely used around us, even though we are not aware of it. It is in paints, laminating, adhesives, composites for household appliances, personal items, sporting goods, medical equipment, motor vehicles, aircraft components etc.
Until now, the majority of the resins used in these industries are chemical, derivative products from the fossil oil industry. Therefore, the existing resins have a high carbon footprint, are not sustainable and are not very safe for health.
On the other hand, there are many potential natural resins around us, from various types of plants, such as pine tree sap etc. It’s just that the production because it is taken from live trees tends to be not optimal and not always sustainable, so it also tends to be expensive.
The good news is that now we can produce a new type of natural resin or bio-resin which we call Nu Resin (From Tamanu Resin or also New Resin). Because it is taken from the seeds of the fruit — not from the tree like others, it is completely sustainable, and its production can be maximized because its presence in tamanu fruit seed oil can reach 20% or more.
For Virgin Tamanu Oil (VTO) generally, this resin is not separated from the oil because some of its health properties are inherent in this resin. But for Crude Tamanu Oil (CTO) which will be used for biofuels and other industrial raw materials, the resin can be separated first. Also VTO which is not used specifically to extract its health properties, such as for carrier oil in the perfume industry, the resin can be extracted first — so that the VTO is cleaner and more flexible in aroma formulation.
Compared to chemical resins, Nu Resin has various advantages, including lowering the carbon footprint, lowering the level of toxicity, reducing dependence on fossils, containing natural anti-oxidants, having its own UV-Protection, and definitely sustainable.
